Brazil flag

What it represents

Brazil’s national flag connects its republican history with astronomy. The stars represent the states and Federal District, arranged to evoke the sky over Rio de Janeiro at the proclamation of the republic in 1889.

How to recognize it

Find the yellow diamond on a green field, then the blue globe inside it. A white band crosses the globe with the motto “Ordem e Progresso” — Order and Progress.
